NORTHERN IRELAND

We love the idea of an Ulster Scots project and some kind of “collaboration” of Friends of the North Highland Way and the Inland Waterways of Ireland, who do a fantastic job.

Inland Waterways Association of Ireland (IWAI) are a
voluntary body and as such have no jurisdiction over any waterways either North or South of the border. In 2018 we looked at the feasibility study with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council. With our interests in Dublin, we believe it is great publicity for both organisations. The IWAI are aware of this idea of course – so more marketing for the Friends of the North Highland Way.

Especially as the supplier of our bikes is in Northern Ireland.

We wrote about the idea of the Portadown / Newry Canal being a kind of parallel with the North Highland Way in 2018.
