Walking

The North Highland Way goes from John o Groats to Durness and can be 10 miles inland.

With the submission to the Scottish Government for a new Core Path from Crosskirk to west of Vulcan, we would like you to take part in the Step Count Challenge which runs from 29 April 2024 to 23 rd June 2024, organised by St. Andrews University. This must not be on the road, and must not be along the coast. Tip: there is a shed opposite the gates of Dounreay… try taking that if you are coming from the east, if from the west, then there are gates opposite Vulcan.

There will be a prize of a book about Dunnet Head for everyone who does it, and provides the developer of the North Highland Way with the .gpx

Julia Bradbury is our walking representative in England – and in fact whereever she is. She is a true Friend of the North Highland Way. You can see our blog on her web site. We are building the North Highland Way from scratch. Read the books on how we developed the North Highland Way as the only multi use route in Scotland.

For those people, mainly overseas, who do not know who Julia Bradbury is, here she is on the TV series in Ireland in 2023.

We love walking so much, we continue around Scotland’s Coast

Building the North Highland Way. The Long Distance Walkers Association sponsored the Friends of the North Highland Way for many years. We are grateful for their support, so we promote their event in Speyside, which is not on the North Highland Way, here. We sell their tee shirts here to raise money for the ongoing development of the Way.

We follow the British Pilgrims route which goes through Gainsborough, and to Lincoln. We have joined the Lincoln Transition Together Hub. You can purchase our passports to the Scottish Pilgrims Route here and get them stamped at the places on this map.

We have teamed up with 10 Adventures to bring you great Adventures on the North Highland Way and other fantastic places.
